Mr. & Mrs. Wright | Oneida County, NY, Family Photographer|

July 11, 2017

Are you looking for a great location to have your family photography session in Oneida County? After a little research on some prime real estate Lock 20 State Park stood out among the others. Lock 20 is part of the Erie Canal flowing east to west through Central NY. For photographers, this is a great spot to capture the best of light twice in one day. If you prefer to be up with before sun and want to capture a glorious sunrise, have at it. But if you want to sleep in a little and can wait till the sun to set, look west of the canal. I opted for this choice.

Why the fuss about the light? In the past, I’ll admit, I used to shoot while the sun was high, but the more I researched, I began testing the waters and fell in love with that soft backlit glow produced by the golden hour rays. It is radiant, romantic and the light is what makes the photograph. Here on Lock 20, we walked toward the Mohawk River in Marcy, NY, for better landscape and to capture the sinking light. You can have the best location and the most gorgeous couple, but if you light isn’t right, your portrait will be missing its pizzazz. A nice location and good-looking couple are a bonus!

Mr. and Mrs. Wright were the right couple for this family session. They are gorgeous and Mr. Wright pulled off his vintage style so well. (The suspenders were a nice touch). While we are on the topic of style, I know we like to ‘match’ in the family sessions, but coordinating and complementing outfits make a much better portrait. This family portrait is going to be hung on your wall to view every day. Your children will hand it down to their children to remember you. For generations, your family portrait will be kept and cherished. If you need help styling your family, ask your family photographer for advice and/or check out this great blog for styling tips.

If you are looking for a great spot to shoot in Oneida County, don't over look the Lock 20 Canal. Another preference I saw was the Union Station in Utica and a cute bridge over a waterway in Camden
