Théoden |Newborn Photography, Syracuse NY|

June 27, 2017

Another blessing in the form of newborn baby! Théoden King Mills visited my studio in Oswego NY, for his newborn photography session at 10 days new. Because I knew of his arrival before his birth I was able to pre-plan his session. Pre-planning is a great help. For instance, Théoden's mama is an artist. So to honor her amazing ability, I wanted a prop/backdrop session with him in it. Easier said then done.

I started with a blank canvas, most artist do. I informed mama-to-be (also my sister) that I wanted a painted backdrop that would look like Théoden painted it himself. Together, the two of us spent an evening plastering paints and creating the backdrop. But I didn't stop there.  In this single image I also contacted an amazing newborn felter, Mimi's Creations, to have her create a felted beret, paintbrush and pallet. They are amazing! So soft, I didn't have to worry about Théoden hurting himself on the real thing.

Newborn props are fun to add to baby posing and can be great to go with parents interest, hobbies and careers. However, If one wants specific props, it is best to discuss it with their newborn photographer in the consulting stage. This happens after you book your session before the birth of the baby. If you wait till after the baby is born, the photographer may not be able to have the newborn props in time. They take time and newborn props are very pricy.

Now obviously, since this cute little guy is my nephew I new in advance and had time to plan. I actually came up of the painted canvas before she announced her pregnancy to the family and kept the thought burning inside of me until then.

So if you are considering a newborn photography session, please do not wait until after your baby arrives,. When that happens you may be too tired to get it together and book a session. Newborn photography needs to be done within the first 12-14 days of birth. After that newborns are stronger and don't like to be curled up in the tight squishy poses. They may still pose, but it is a much smaller window that they will. If you book before hand, the session is guaranteed once you pay your retainer. Your newborn photography session is well on it's way of being planned to your desire, and you are going to LOVE it.
