With summer here and the weather getting warmer I have been aching to shoot some beach sessions. You see the beach sessions all over on social media. The glowing sunset, painted sky's and families walking together like they do it everyday. And they seem so happy in their environment. For sure I could pull it off with my family.
Our family vacation took us 10 hours south of Oswego NY, to Virginia Beach. As a huge tourist area, I didn't want my family photos with well everybody else's families. Not that I don't like them, you know, I just wanted to keep it our 5 family (as Rose refers to us in numbers).
I googled best places for family photos in the Virginia Beach area and started researching the locations. And right down the coast from the wild Virginia Beach was First Landing State Park. It offered a quieter and less populated location. I kind of wish I would of found it before we made our reservations elsewhere.
We arrived in the evening, a little earlier then I wanted and of course with 3 kids you can only keep them participating for so long.
My girls looked absolutely gorgeous in the golden hour sunlight. And my husband and I weren't half bad either. I posed and coached the family, setting the aperture and shutter speed to the light making the adjustments to fit my style. And because my kids treat my tripod like a microphone/camera it no longer works as it is supposed to functioned to. This meant for family portraits I had to get creative and allow my husband to photograph me and create one image from the composites. I have to say, I was very pleased with the outcome.
I can't wait to see these images blown up on high quality canvases on my wall. It will forever take us back to that fun week we spent on the Atlantic Ocean.
It was a long drive from Oswego NY, but so worth it for our family to get out and experience this vacation together.
